Peptitler (Grekçe: πεπτίδια; “küçümencik sindirilebilirler”) tanımlanmış bir düzende, α-amino asitlerin birbirine ilişkilanmasıyla oluşan kesik polimerlerdir.[1] Bir amino asit lafıntısı ile öbürü arasındaki bağ bir “amit bağ” yahut peptit bağı olarak bilinir.[1]
Tetrapeptit (Oligopeptit)
Proteinler polipeptit molekülleridir (yahut çok skorda polipeptit madun birimi çitndırır). Zemin ayırt peptitlerin kesik, polipeptitlerin/proteinlerin ise uzun olmasıdır.[1]
Protein sentezi esnasında her amino asit, gayrı amino asite geceli gündüzlü, kırılmayan bir polimer olan polipeptid zincirleriyle ilişkilanır. Polipeptid gestaltsına hoşgörüsüzlan amino asitlerin her biri gestaltya peptid ilişkilarıyla ilişkilanır. Peptid bağının oluşumu esnasında amino asitlerden birinin amino grubu ile diğerinin karboksil grubu, aradan bir akarsu çıkması sonucu birleşirler.[1]
Vasati bir polipeptit zinciri 450 amino asitten oluşur.[1] Bilinen en uzun polipeptit, ortalama 27,000 amino asitten oluşan, kas dokusunda mevcut “titin”dir. Polipeptid zincirine hoşgörüsüzlan amino asitlere lafıntı (residue) adı verilir.[1] Zincirin bir ucundaki lafıntı, bağ yapmamış, muaf amino grubu çitndırır ve N ucu olarak adlandırılır. Aynı şekilde zincirin gayrı ucundaki muaf α-karboksil grubu olan lafıntıya C ucu adı verilir.
